Tonight was our most recent visit. Man, are these people friendly and accommodating. We showed up a little after 9, and they had decided to close early for the 4th of July holiday since it was slow. We were greeted warmly, told we were the last table, seated immediately. The food was fast and amazing as always. They repeatedly insisted for us not to hurry, and to enjoy our meal. So gracious, this was already our favorite Thai restaurant in KC, but this sealed the deal. Crab Rangoon, dumplings, Spicy Ginger Beef stir fry and Pad Thai Gaeng Daeng. Honestly, everything we've ever had is fantastic.

Thai Place is a small Thai restaurant not in the older suburbs of Kansas City with classic vegetarian options. Near a pawn shop, local bank, and comic store, Thai Place doesn't come off as a power player in the Kansas City Thai game. It should definitely be respected, though. I ordered a red curry with veggies and tofu, my go to at any Thai spot, making sure there was no fish sauce. That's always a struggle at Asian restaurants - to the best of my knowledge, fish aren't vegetables. I was pretty pleased with the curry: it wasn't overwhelmingly coconut milk, and it had a great heat to it. The tofu was also excellent - it soaked up the curry flavoring and kept its soft texture. I was kind of surprised by some of the vegetables in the curry though. It was mostly bok choy, which didn't taste very good. Overall, I'd return to Thai Place if I were in the 87th Street area. The Thai options are limited in the Kansas City area, and Thai Place makes a decent curry.

I was truly sad when I heard that the Thai Place in westport had closed its doors for good, but my sadness quickly turned around when I found out that our new house was just a mere few miles away from their other location! This place delivers the same great taste as the westport location and as usual I was very happy with my meal!

Big portions, quick service. Surprised at how small the place was when we walked in but that's nothing to be said about the food. I would give it 3.5 just because it wasn't good and wasn't bad. Both boyfriend and I got the Pad Thai. His was chicken, mine tofu. Good Thai for down the street and easy access. Will return if in the mood.

The red snapper meal was on point! The crab Rangoon was on point! The Thai basil chicken was on point! The Tigers Cry Beef was okay. The service was good. I'm definitely going back.

If you like it hot, Thai Place is your spot. We discovered via Yelp that Thai Place does Phad Thai for 30% off on Tuesdays, so off we went! We started by ordering Thai Iced Tea. I'm glad we ordered only one. It was much larger than most other Thai restaurants we've been to. It was a perfect classic rendition. We both got Phad Thai with Chicken with the spice level of hot. I almost ordered thai hot. I'm glad I didn't. Hot brings a pretty brutal amount of heat all on its own. If it were any hotter I wouldn't have been able to handle it. It was a nice sized portion. You could taste that it was going to be hot. If you're looking for classic Phad Thai flavor, then don't order it hot or thai hot. I absolutely cleaned my plate, but slightly longed for the classic flavors to come through with the heat. Stage 2 of the thai heat will likely not be a pleasant memory. I finished eating there about 30 minutes ago and my stomach is burnin' like a mofo! We each got 2 small pieces of Crab Rangoon with our meal. Someone else had said in their review that the Crab Rangoon melts in your mouth. That was a perfect description. I have never had Crab Rangoon with that kind of smooth consistency inside. It was quite delectable! We couldn't understand a word our server was saying. She also didn't know their wifi password nor did she try to get it for us. However, her normal flow of table service was on point. The best part was the bill. With the 30% off, our entire bill was $16.28! We were stuffed like turkeys when we left. We like this place and shall return without a doubt!

Seriously, read the tips. . Medium heat is very spicy. I normally get a 7 out of 10.. I wish I had gotten a 4 here. Everything we had was awesomeness and so flavorful. Can't go wrong here.

I FOUND A F'ING COCKROACH IN MY FOOD! I used to rate this place at 5 stars, but after my experience today with it, I only wish that I could rate it negative stars. I had ordered our regular, pad thai medium heat to go. I ate mine, my fiancé ate part of hers and then reheated the remainder for dinner the same evening. She found a dead cooked cockroach in the left overs. They were apologetic and are refunding the purchase. When I called, I was told by the manager on the phone that it does happen from time to time. ARE YOU F'ING KIDDING ME?!? There are plenty of good places to eat in the area, choose another, one that doesn't give you free cockroaches with your food.

Every time I think I find my new favorite Thai place another one comes along. Same story, different day. Thai Place on 87th is my new go-to Thai restaurant for all things curry and spicy. The curry to curry comparison holds true here. Excellent curry options (panang, green, and red are some of the best I've had). Chicken satays are ridiculously huge - think chicken breasts, not wimpy satays. Service is always excellent and the environment is quaint. You know you've found a good place when the joint is crowded on a Monday or Tuesday night. Such is the case with Thai Place (not to be confused with the Westport eatery with the same name). 87th Street seems to have a monopoly on good Asian cuisine between TP and ABC Cafe. Don't think twice about patronizing TP for great Thai food. It's a winner, winner, curry dinner.

Thai Place is a great place to eat. If you're looking for quality Thai cuisine with delicious, fresh food and great service this is the place for you. My boyfriend and I eat here about once a week and have tried just about everything. We always go back to the same things though. Their spring rolls, red or panang curry or their pad kee maw. All of the proteins you can add are always tender. Dining in is great or we usually get it for take out before it's so close to us. The food is always hot when we pick it up and it's usually ready in about 15 minutes. If you're a Thai food lover or want to try something new, there's something for everyone here. Side note: This place is the same as the Thai Place in Westport. Just a different location.

Went there for lunch today the place was nearly full got us a table cleaned off right away kept the water glasses all the time service was excellent. I ordered phad Thai chicken/shrimp it was excellent. They let you order it as hot as you want, I got medium it was perfect, the boy ordered panagan curry beef in medium/hot it was a yellow peanut curry both lunches came with either soup or salad I tried the the soup it was awesome some kind of beef soup the boy got a salad it was good definitely can't wait to go back it was awesome

The crab Rangoon were very tasty and I took some suggestions on here and went with the red snapper. You get your choice of spice level and I went with medium plus. Glad I didn't go any hotter. I was still feeling it a hour later but it was really tasty. Medium spice I'm sure would be plenty. Beside the spice the dish is just filled with all sorts of good veggies, the fish was perfect. The service was great too. I would go back and recommend you give this place a shot.

Best Thai!! Pad Thai is delicious, crab Rangoon real tastey. Can't go wrong with anything here

I absolutely love this place! I really don't like spicy food, so if you're thinking that Thai food might be too spicy for you- don't worry. The service is great, and they also do take out. One concern for dining might be that they're not a very large place so around dinner time on a weekend could be kind of busy. Call ahead to find out! I really like the Thai tea and the pad see ew.

Just called to place a pick-up order and they said the kitchen had closed. It's 9:49pm, and they close at 10pm. I worked in restaurants for almost two decades, and you close when your sign says you close, and not a moment before. Personally I would never walk into a restaurant and eat inside at 9:50pm, because it's rude to the server, who has to wait until after I'm finished eating to clean up, but...a restaurant should be prepared for that. I, however, was ordering to-go. I live 10 minutes away, and the kitchen would have been finished preparing my food by their 10pm closing time. It doesn't matter how good your food is, if I don't get to eat it during the times you designate that you're open, it may as well not exist. We used to order to-go from here frequently, but will skip it, from now on, and just dine-in at Thai Place in Westport.

Went there today with my daughter. The experience was superb on all levels. The waiter was prompt, informative and very friendly. Our appetizer was perfect, the crab rangoon is creamy, delicious, thin and crispy with a wonderful mix of sweet and savory. Our main meals came out in a timely manner and were piping hot! So much served we barely made a dent in the amount. We will be eating thai for a couple of days and enjoying it all over again. Love this place.

Got a medium pad Thai with shrimp and it was very good. Perfect spicy flavor, well cooked noodles, & large shrimp. Ordering online is easy and convenient. However, there's a fee to order online even though you still have to pick up the food. Inside is nice and clean. Would definitely return and recommend to others.

I love this place! I eat here basically every week. I usually order the Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp. For lunch I'll order it with extra chicken and shrimp, and it feeds my girlfriend and I for just $10 including tax. That deal just can't be beat, especially when it is SO DELICIOUS! I've also had the soft spring rolls quite often and they are so fresh and light, they are the perfect compliment to the pad thai or other heavier dishes. I've never had anything I did not really enjoy here, although I didn't love the Volcano soup. I would also recommend the Pad Thai Gaeng Daeng, which is a variation of the traditional pad thai dish. The dining room has a cozy upscale feel that you would not expect before walking in. They do have a full bar available if you want a cocktail with dinner. There is 30% off pad thai on Tuesdays if you dine in. They are also very quick with orders called in for pickup and usually have it ready in 10 minutes or less. One thing worth mentioning is that each dish can be ordered mild, mild+, medium, medium+, hot, or "thai hot". I love spicy food, and can just about drink saracha, and I usually order my dish medium. There is variability in the spice level, even when ordering "medium" so if you don't want to get a dish too hot for you, I would be a little conservative.

I love this place, been here many years and always receive good services. And the food always spot on. We also did our catering for my little girl birthday last week. Food was amazing and very good portions too. Delivered on time by owner. Special Thank you for saving us time!

Had dinner last night with a friend. We had Spring Rolls and Chicken Phad Thai and another chicken noodle dish. One medium and one hot. Everything was very good with lots to take home. The spice level was just right for me. I've had their Thai Hot and it was just a little too much for me.

I was visiting Shawnee Mission for a week. I went to this place twice in the same week. It was so good! Best crab rangoon I've ever had. Best Pad See Ew I've ever had! Great service. Really good!

  • Tommy T.

First, I only gave 3 stars because I have yet to try more items from their menu. Once I've visited a few more times, (and I do plan on going back) I will update review. Pad Thai is excellent here. Especially on Tuesdays Dine In and you get 30% off your Pad Thai. I've tried the King Ann Chicken which is very good if you like mushroom. The Hot and Sour soup was a bit to rich and spicy for me but has a good flavor. I also enjoyed the Panang Curry, although a little spicy even though I said asked for no spice. Not sure if they just messed it up or if dish is just that spicy. By the way, if you don't like spicy dishes, i recommend opting for No Spice or Mild as even Medium is or can be extremely spicy. Crab Rangoons are light, fluffy and delicious as are spring rolls.

    (3)
  • Chef C.

Wow, really great food! Had beef grapow based on two friends recommendations. Very good with a lot of flavor! I thought I was a tuff guy so I asked for medium spicy... yeah... thai medium = white guy hot. Still good though, as I would take sips of my thai iced tea to cool the spicy bites. Try a thai iced tea too.

I've eaten here 3 times and every time it's been exceptional. I love the phade tai I've had it mild and medium both are good. Medium is hot. :) Egg rolls . Crab Rangoon spring rolls Are all excellent choices Service is always very friendly. Never want for more water. They keep your glass full. I'll be back

Dined here a few times. Mom likes to get takeout here. Great padthai. One of the best you'll find in KC I think. I personally think it's a little over priced. Tip: go on Tuesdays for 30 percent off padthai

Best thai in Kansas City. Warning the mediun plus is pretty spicey! Reccomend the shrimp pad thai.

  • Maggie C.

Delicious!!! The location itself is very small, which makes the restaurant very cozy. Our waiter was attentive towards our needs and our glasses were always full. I ordered the tamarind chicken; extremely flavorful, and the jasmine rice was nice and fluffy. I can't wait to go back.

  • Bessie R.

I love their seafood volcano soup and this calamari and I JUST LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I haven't gone to any other Thai restaurants here and I don't plan on going anywhere else. The staff is friendly and they make sure you have everything you need to enjoy your lunch or dinner there.

  • Anita D.

Ordered spring rolls as appetizer. Presented artfully cut in half and set on end. Peanut sauce was lighter than what I've had in Vietnamese restaurants, slight citrus undertone, very nice. I like spicy and ordered medium+ (5 on a 7 scale) for thread noodle salad. Great flavor but I'll not order again because of texture-chicken was ground. Fried banana dessert was a cool and refreshing ending. Great service and clean restrooms.

  • Phillip L.

Extremely good Thai food. I had the chicken grapow and enjoyed it. Ordered it hot on the best scale and it definitely followed through with hot. The order came with 2 crab rangoon that were okay, nothing special. I'll definitely come back to try more.

I was wandering around looking for something to cure my spicy cravings as well as help my cold.... I wandered into this gem and was rewarded with a delicious pho type soup! The medium plus is perfect if you like a small sweat and lip tingle... I will definitely be back to try more.

Placed an order to go, 2 appetizers and some pad sea eaw. Everything was burnt down to the noodles and they didn't make he entree as requested. This is my 3rd time at this location and every time there's something wrong. Will just stick with the original one in Westport. Never have I had an issue there.

I was craving Shrimp Pad Thai in the worst way. I found this place on yelp and read the reviews and figured I'd give it a try. I ordered the fried dumplings to start off. Can you say AMAZING? Little pillows filled with pork and seasonings - and the peanut sauce for dipping was excellent! Then my Shrimp Pad Thai arrived. It was creamy, peanutty, shrimpy deliciousness! I will definately add this place to my go to places for Pad thai

  • Josh M.

B+ This place has the best crab rangoon and the second best pad thai in town. No doubt about it. The crab rangoon shelling is very thin and the center is very savory. The sweet and sour sauce served with it is very good as well. I order the pad thai 3 alarm and it is the perfect amount of heat. I've noticed that with less heat there seems to be less flavor. But I've noticed that at every thai restaurant I've been to. And you get a lot with the order. At least two meals worth. My wife always orders something called, like, pad say yum, or something like that. It has broccoli in it and for just that fact alone it should be outlawed. Goo.. Service is top notch. Great family restaurant. Pro tip: Order this with a Chang beer.

  • Josh R.

Simply the best thai food available. I used to just think I really liked pad thai, Which started my journey to try thai food in every city I go to. I have yet to not be disappointed. Thai Place is hands down the best, no one even comes close. The only thing you need to know about is the Pad Thai, it is so good, there is literally reason to try anything else. Work your way up the spice latter and open up a world of flavor, you will not be disappointed. The thai ice coffee is excellent. This place is true nirvana. Stop reading, and start driving!

There are two reasons I dine here regularly: Red Curry Chicken (Thai hot) and the appetizer Tiger Cry Beef. And water. Lots of water. Your glass meticulously refilled by a pleasant and professional wait staff. The burn is pure ecstasy with the sweetness of the coconut and curry flavor mixing with the Thai basil and peppers. It's glorious, it's wonderful, you'll sweat. Hands down one of my favorite dishes in the Metro area. I've heard the other dishes are good but we can't get past the curry. As my lunch friend says, "why would we ever eat anything else?" A must. By the way, tried the other locations and they've never measured up in quality to this, the original.

Consistent. Consistently good food, big portions and poor service. They are under staffed when they fill both dining rooms.

Great lunch spot with affordable prices. I don't know what it is about the Greater KC area and spiking their Thai food prices, but let me just say... Thai food should NOT be expensive. Sorry, had to vent there.. Back to what I was saying.. The food here is great, especially during lunch. Their spring rolls, omg their spring rolls are amazing here. A little pricey, but it's worth it. For the main dishes, I love ordering the Gaeng Juud (sp?) It's a clear noodle soup with crumbled pieces of pork or beef (your choice) It's great on a cold winter day. Well, at the rate we're going, a cold spring day. Also the kee mao is delicious as well.

I am a little upset with this restaurant. I had a business lunch there last week, and it was fine. A little sweet and stodgy, wouldn't necessarily feel the need to review it, but fine. However, I paid with my debit card, and a day later they added another charge to my account. I have left repeated phone messages for the manager, have not received a call back, and now am angry. This is not okay.

I loved the spiciness, everything hit the spot. Probably better to order it to-go as it was a small and very quiet restaurant but I was really happy with the quality.

This is favorite Thai restaurant in KC. I fell in love with Thai food on my business travels to Asia and I have a hard time finding decent Thai here in KC. The Thai place is not 100% authentic but it is fairly close! On a cold day, I love the Volcano soup here. Ask them to make it Thai hot and it will warm you up. The Gra Pow dishes are hearty and tasty, again ask for Thai hot if you want it to make you sweat. The staples like Pad Thai and Spicy Basil dishes are really good too... Don't let the strip mall location fool you, take a peak inside and you'll find a nicely decoarated Thai dining room!

  • Ben M.

One of my favorite spots. The food is always delicious and so fresh! I love the option to choose your degree of hotness. I often go for Thai hot. I world's like to go back enough to have tried everything on the menu. It is literally that good. The staff is excellent, the decor and ambience are top notch, and service is great. I'm actually craving this now simply drum writing this review. Love Thai Place!

Went here and the food was amazing. Food is full of flavor and exceptional service. I had the soft spring rolls and the grilled tamarind chicken dish thai hot and it was just great good. By far the best thai food I've had in Kansas.

Stopped in Thai Place for the first time yesterday for date night. It's a small little spot in the middle of a strip mall but don't let this deter you. This place is excellent. The staff was super friendly, the ambiance was fantastic and the food was delicious. I have been to some other thai places and the food was so spicy you couldn't really taste anything. Not the case here. Ordered our dishes medium+ heat and it was perfect. Didn't break a sweat, didn't have my nose running like crazy. Spice with all the flavor you could ask for. I highly recommend this place for your thai food fix. Here's what we got. appetizer Soft Spring Rolls Soft spring rolls made with rice wrapper stuffed with ground pork, bean thread noodle, lettuce, cilantro, and bean sprouts served with sweet and sour shredded carrot and roasted peanut. I had the Pla Dook Grapow Fried crisp catfish fillets then stir fried with bell peppers and jalapeños in our garlic basil sauce and my wife had the Phad Thai Gaeng Daeng - no meat style A different version of our Traditional Phad Thai made with pork and shrimp complimented with the flavor and spice of red curry and the richness of coconut milk. Garnished with Thai basil, fresh bean sprouts and roasted peanut Gluten Free - This place has an assortment of gluten free options. They don't have a dedicated menu but they can make most dishes gluten free. They informed us the soy sauce and the oyster sauce had gluten in them but they could work around that no problem. If gluten is a issue for you, mark this as a spot you can go to and have a safe dinner with no worries!

This place is the best! I have happily ruined my stomach with way too much heat many times. Service staff is fantastic and it feels like the kind of place where the family is all in back doing all the cooking. Hot and Sour soup is awesome some of the best of I have ever had, and the crab rangoon are thin and tasty.

  • Rohit A.

Great food , nice ambiance and good service. Ordered Grilled chicken tamarind (Thai Hot) it was delicious and pretty hot but for most people medium is good enough. Thai hit is still milder than "Blazing Hot" of Buffalo Wild Wings. It's little expensive than most Thai Restaurants. One person can have dinner here for approx. $23

Another weekday lunch, another slam-dunk experience at Thai Place. I eat here often and here's the formula: 1. fast, great service. 2. delicious food. 3. two-for-Tuesday Pad Thai Are there any questions? Good. Go.

returned last night and actually had the same server. this time we made sure to clarify how we wanted our food brought out to us (appetizer first/family style). we started with chicken larb and devoured it pretty quickly. then we shared phad kee mow with tofu (which I only like in Thai dishes) and the pork red curry dish. our two-year-old loved the phad kee mow. my husband liked the pork dish more than I did but everything was good. we had enough food for dinner tonight too. I also appreciated that they gave us more steamed rice to eat with our leftovers too. we will definitely be back soon!!

Never had eaten Thai food until coming here, I was missing out! Every time I go here the staff is very friendly and prompt. Add in the fact that the food is always amazing, this is a place everyone should be going too. My favorite restaurant in the area.

I'm giving this place 4 stars for there atmosphere (elegant and cozy). I LOVE there crab rangoon, it is my favorite of all time. It is thin and tasty, i do like the sweet and sour sauce, although not my favorite. I have tried other dishes here in the past, but it has been so long i cannot post a review on them. This place is a little on the pricier side, crab rangoon is just under 7.00 (can't remember the exact price). It is worth a visit if you have time and love thai!

  • Amy R.

The (Original) Thai Place is super fun and also very good. We somewhat accidentally went there the weekend before Valentine's Day so the service was probably a little off but the food was so good. There is NO REASON to get PAD THAI anywhere else in KC...no reason.

  • Arun N.

This is one of the last remaining original Thai places in Kansas City. I have been getting takeout from this restaurant for the past five years and it has been consistently good. The crab rangoons are always a good option for an appetizer. If you are looking for something a little more meaty, go with the basil chicken wings. If you are looking for something healthy, go with the always fresh spring rolls served with Thai peanut sauce. The spicy basil stirfry with chicken or green curry with chicken are good options for your entrée. If you are new to Thai cuisine, order all your dishes mild. If you are a veteran, go with medium or hot. The spice level of Thai Hot is scorching. Do not order this unless you have the next day off.

  • Jessica L.

I went to Thai Place for a low-key Valentine's Day dinner. It was decked out with red roses, pink carnations, votive candles, and heart-shaped balloons. There was a live band doing covers of 90s love songs. The pad thai was solidly delicious, the thai iced thea was floral, and the massaman beef curry was incredible (my boyfriend ordered it spicy and the heat really snuck up since the flavors were so nicely balanced). The portions were the hugest I've ever seen, so be careful not to over order. All in all, im glad that i went and i'd go back again.

Delicious chicken pad thai! Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Crab Rangoons included in lunch plates.... Delicious also! We had the volcano soup and were impressed since we've never tried soup. Very tasty! And then we got our bill... 2 lunch entrees that filled us up more than we needed -- $19!!! Wow! Very good!

Good Thai restaurant disguised as a strip-mall hole-in-the-wall. We tried the Thai calamari the other night, which was heavily battered and deep-fried into oblivion -- badly overcooked and leathery -- the coconut-lemongrass soup, on the other hand, was a wonderful silky broth with lots of mushrooms and chicken swimming around in it. Yummy! Portions are huge, I took half of the soup home. Excellent pad thai, as well, which is after all the prime directive of any Thai restaurant. Live music on the Friday night we visited was unexpected, but quite enjoyable.

Took 20 minutes to have a drink order taken. The food is adequate but the service is atrocious. If you have 2 hrs of spare time for dinner this is your place.

This is really a first rate Thai restaurant. Crab ragoon was very good, light and crisp shell, delicious cream inside. Panang Curry, med hot, super flavor, chicken just right, very fresh, bell peppers fresh, Pad Thai, med hot, excellent dish, chicken good, good flavor. Service was great. This was really good.

I was disappointed the last time I was here. I have been coming to this location for years and it has always impressed. I know it has gone through some ownership changes and that could be it. Phad Thai was all dark meat chicken that was clearly reheated meat and tiger cry beef was fatty. In an area with many top thai restaurants they need to either get in the game or they will be out of it...

I really like ethnic food, whether it's Indian, Thai, Chinese, I'm pretty much game to try it all, and will most likely love it. One of my favorite places to grab Thai food in my area is Thai Place on 87th in Overland Park. This is the "original" Thai Place and opened in 1991. The food here is consistently scrumptious. Although they no longer have Pad Thai Tuesday, when the famous Pad Thai dish is buy-one-get-one free, they do offer it for 30% off. If you are not in the mood for a noodle entree, let me recommend the Golden Crab fried rice, made with ample amounts of fresh crab, scallions, and garlic. If you are in the mood to live life on the spicy side, indulge in a curry dish. My favorite is the aromatic Gaeng Daeng, made with coconut milk, red chili paste, Thai basil and red and green bell peppers. Go ahead, order it spicy, just be sure to have a Thai iced tea on the side. Or, make a meal out of Thai Place's tasty appetizers. Although the crab rangoon may not be the most authentic plate on the menu, it's the best crab rangoon in the city. Flash fried in the hottest oil, the inside oozes with crab meat and cream cheese, and the outside is perfectly crispy. Pair the crab rangoons with a bowl of fresh soup, or an order of Tiger Cry Beef, gently marinated steak grilled over hot flames, and you have yourself an amazing meal. Whatever you choose, be sure to save room for my favorite Thai Place dessert, sticky rice with mango. Made with coconut and fresh mango, this luscious dish is unexpectedly fabulous!

As a chilehead, I love any place that serves spicy dishes. The Thai Place actually changed the way I order, though. In most Thai places, I order "Thai hot," knowing that with any luck, it will have a little bit of kick to it. I'm usually disappointed with the heat level. Not here. I tried Thai hot a couple of times and realized that they know how to punch it up! I have resorted to only ordering dishes "hot" at the Thai Place. Still, the hot version usually has me mopping my brow and wiping my runny nose. I have actually killed a whole pitcher of water by myself. The food is fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend the moo phad phet. Stir fried pork with mushrooms, bell peppers, jalapeños, onions and scallions in a spicy red curry sauce. You also get soup or a salad, and two crab rangoons. The hot and sour soup has large chunks of mushrooms and small chunks of meat and other vegetables, and strikes a a nice balance with its hot and sour broth. I have only eaten here at lunch. The service is always friendly and prompt. The decor, typical Thai. If you like Thai food, try the Thai Place.

I've been here once and it was with a table of 20 people ( no reservation, just last minute "hi, can you seat us?" ) Staff was great, the head waitress is patient, tiny=fast, and most importantly has the memory of an elephant. I definately recommend the Green Curry with Shrimp or the Red curry with Beef ( both come out soup like, and lets you eat lots of rice with out feeling like a glutton :D )

Best Thai place around Kansas City. The taste is very original... Love the interior of the restaurant is quite cozy and warm. Food was amazing I had Medium + as my spice level and it was extraordinary.. I love eating spicy food.

The food is just OK. I LOVE Thai food, so that was a disappointment. It just didn't scream WOW. It had large portions, but I found it to be expensive. I was really disappointed that they didn't have smaller sizes of soup. All they have is a meal and a half's worth. What if I go there alone or with someone I don't want to share with and want to try more than one dish? I'm used to ordering soup and an entree and sometimes a dessert. The portions are WAY TOO LARGE. I think they'd have more customers if they cut the portion size and cut the price accordingly. It's far more expensive than NYC, LA or Boston prices which is just downright silly in OP. I suppose you'll just have to bring your nuclear family with you or a lot of friends if you want to try a bunch of dishes without walking out in a food coma. I know this chain had financial issues, so perhaps they will listen to this feedback. I wish them success.

The restaurant seemed clean, and the staff was extremely careful with the preparation of my food since I explained I was allergic to shrimp. They even left out the fish sauce just to be safe since I had called in a take-out order and they couldn't reach me to verify. The order was ready to go quickly and was hot and tasty! The chicken pad thai order was enough to feed 2 people and was some of the best I've had.

This place's food was so yummy, plus it left me with an overall feeling of satisfaction and respect. Five stars it is! I went with my friend Marcos around 3 pm on a Friday - technically dinner time so I could use a Restaurant.com gift certificate. We were one of only three parties total that dined during that time, but I chalk that up to the odd hour. We split a crab rangoon appetizer, which was just as delicious as you would expect this dish to be. Probably more so, because the fried shell was not overdone or tough. Just right. We relaxed with some Chang beers, and suddenly ambient music started playing where there was none before. I think it was Celine Dion's "Where Does My Heart Beat Now" and of course, this was welcome to my ears. Then, another Celine Dion song played. And another. If you've never eaten Asian cuisine while listening to Celine Dion's greatest hits, I suggest you try it. It stirs the soul and the senses. We both had the second version of the Pad Thai on the menu. I forget what it was called but I think it had pork and shrimp. We got medium hot, which to me was close to regular Korean hot, intensity wise. Very nice. I thoroughly enjoyed the melding of the peanut and basil flavors. Our server was wonderful and explained to us that the voucher we had meant an automatic gratuity added. Cool, one less thing to worry about! Great food, great music, and by the way, charming decor. We'll be back I'm sure!

Yay, I am totally a fan of Thai Place! Loved it! I came here to have a weekday dinner since both husband & I were too lazy to cook. Friends have told me that in OP, this is the Thai place to go! We definitely agree! I ordered the Pad See Eaw & husband ordered Phad Thai Gaeng Daeng. Oh man, the Gaeng Daeng had some red curry mixed up in there and it was delicious! It was like a melding of pad thai and curry. I liked my dish, but his dish was way better. I pretty much just switched my plate with his after trying one bite. A side note about the spicy factor: medium spicy is actually quite hot! we both ordered medium and my tongue was on fire. Also note that restaurant.com has good deals on Thai Place!

This place was awesome. Unlike most Thai places I've visited, when they say hot, it means hot! The wings were delicious. Loved the Thai Place twist on Pad Thai. Green curry was delicious, even at Thai hot spicy level.

I wish I liked Thai Place more than I do. The food is fine. But it doesn't stand out as much as some of the really great Thai spots we've frequented. What I'd say is if you want "safe" Thai food that will remind you of most Thai restaurants you've been to, then this is the place for you. But if you like to see a twist of traditional dishes, you might be dissapointed. I've found the service to be somewhat hit and miss. Completely depends on your waitress. Most are friendly. But every so often, you'll end up with one who's annoyed that you're there.

Fantastic restaurant. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Food is delivered quickly and is above and beyond good. I've haven't tried anything that wasn't superb. I am writing this review solely because I feel it deserves more recognition over it's sister location in Westport. (Read my review of that location.)

Seriously, give something different a chance. Pad Thai again? Really? Really? :) So get the beef noodle soup! It's like the flagship meal in Thailand...I think hehe. Nothing scary in there - just try it and you'll be a fan too...you'll start itchin for it every now and then. My opinion, Thai noodle soup is better than Vietnamese pho, but don't tell VC on Campbell I said that! The rest of the menu items are for advanced Chinese buffet people.

My friend recommended me this place and I got the coupon from restaurant.com . Thus, I tried this place out. The decoration is very nice. The waiter was very patient and polite to us when we could not make a decision. I ended up trying pork stir-fried with Thai basil (pad ka pow), thin noodle stir-fried with thick soy sauce (sen mee pad see ew), and fried whole fish with chili sweet sauce (pla rad prik). The pad ka pow was "super" good. The taste was just right and the pork was very delicious. You cannot find this taste easily even in Thailand. The taste of sen mee pad see ew was good but it was way too oily. I am not a big fan of pla rad prik as the fish was overheated. I really hope that the pad ka pow was not a fluke. If you read this and try the pad ka pow out, please let me know!

I gave this place another chance after having a few very bad experiences. The problem is one of the waitresses so I simply request a different server now and everything is good! You should know if you get the terrible waitress because she's crazy. She messes up the order every time and then blames other people. Once, she made an angry growling sound when I told her that the food I got was not what I ordered. She also manages to bring out bad food. I'm not sure if she's telling the cook to do it or if shes doing something to it herself but it only happens when shes around. That being said, I just couldn't stay away because the food is great and so are the other employees.

I've been here twice. The first time I got a soup. I'm sorry, I thought I reviewed this place before. I can't give you the exact name of the soup. But it was full of great seafood but unfortunately it had lemon grass, herbs, bay leaves, and many other various things, roots, stems, leaves, etc etc etc in it, that, while though flavorful, made it IMPOSSIBLE to eat. I had to sort through each sip of soup and take out all the inedible foilage. I don't even know how to spell the word, but it was impossible to eat. It was delicious, maybe that is how Thai soups are prepared, so that each bite you have to take out lemon grass and bay leaves so that by the end of the meal you have a pile of foilage on the table, but this was not a pleasant eating experience. I came back though. (3 stars for the seafood soup). I came back because my dad got the Pad Thai noodles with seafood. I got it when I came back alone, and got it extra hot, and it was amazing. It was a huge portion with tons of peanuts and was plenty hot. Great stuff. This eatery is tiny but the staff is friendly. The prices may seem expensive, but you get a ton of food and the quality is amazing. So to review (seafood soup was 3 stars because it was hard to eat) (phad thai, pad thai? was 5 stars, amazing stuff, great seafood and great peanuts and great heat and flavor, service, 5 stars) Overall, 4 stars.....will for sure go back, I can't believe I haven't been back. It's 20 blocks away so maybe that's why. I'm a recluse.

After a brief shutdown due to a dispute with the taxman (as I understand it), Thai Place is open again. The quality is still there, but so are the prices. I don't like the $10 lunch price, hence the thee stars. If I could go in for $6-$8, I would be much happier. I got Sen Mee Phad Sea Eaw which is thin rice noodles with multiple vegetables. My protein was tofu...I am not a vegetarian, but usually the quantity of vegetables is higher with the non-meat version. Anyway, the flavor was good, but the tofu was of the fried cubed variety which I am not partial to. Also, the tofu came out strangely hollow. They were really pillowy squares of nothingness. I wish they would have left it out. My friend got the Pad Thai...Thai hot. I lit his arse on fire (or it presumably will later anyway), and this guy unscrews the top off the crushed red peppers and dumps them on his pizza. I thought I'd throw that in for those who complain about not getting the heat when they order the Thai Hot option. I did try a small bite and it definitely had some heat (I like two scoops of the hot salsa at Chipotle if that means anything), and I can say that eating large amounts would probably set me afire...but this was a small sample so I am mainly going off my friends heated reaction...so to speak. Overall, it was good, but the price is high. PS - the hot & sour soup was great. Thicker than I am used to but delicious. I will say however, that they probably would have taken a hit from the health inspector on the soup because I do not believe it was 135+ degrees. PPS - as of this posting (01/03/2011) they have buy one get one free Pad Thai on Tuesdays!

This is good Thai food. I have had a hard time finding really good Thai since I moved here from Seattle a few years ago. This is the first place that is up to par with what I am used to. Delicious! They have great pre meal soups like Hot and Sour and Chicken and rice too. Very fresh.

I bought a Muncharoo certificate of $12.50 for $25 worth of food at this Thai Place location. It has been about 5 years since I've last eaten at a Thai Place as I used to go to the now closed Arun Thai Place in downtown and the original in Westport. But I've always found the dishes to be too pricey so stopped going to any Thai Place locations in favor of other ones. The items we received at this location were barely even Thai food and did not match the description on the menu. My fiancee ordered the spicy tomatoes fried rice that was supposed to include sweet potatoes. While the dish we received was fried rice, it wasn't spicy, did not contain sweet potatoes, and had only 3 minuscule slices of tomatoes. He also ordered a hot tea which on the menu said it was Jasmine tea. He instead received what was probably a lemon Lipton tea. My red curry with tofu and mixed vegetables turned out to be a big plate of fried tofu drenched in chili oil. I didn't pick up any flavors of curry and my dish reminded me of cheap, greasy Americanized Chinese food - my arch nemesis of "cuisines." After checking the KC Thai Place website, I'm not quite sure if this location is affiliated to the one in Westport. The website only lists the Westport location. It's been too long since I've eaten at that one so can't fairly comment on any comparisons beyond I don't recall the food being bad over there. If you're already in OP, go to Bangkok Pavilion instead.

Don't be deceived by the ambience. Place is nice, but doesn't go along with bad service and bad food. Servise is real bad..... waiter and waitress just fooling around, not doing work, bring wrong orders, and omg, food is just average and below average. Ordered specifically without cilantro.. and came out with cilantro and one Columbian waiter (Lennon) sarcastically said " are you allergic to cilantro??". And more other inappropriate comments. Food is just very average..... Thai iced tea is like water.... tasteless.... and came out after soup and first dishes was out?? Price is not compatible with the service and food quality. Very unrecommended for everyone. Don't be fooled with the reviews.... There are better Thai places in town than this one!

The Thai place is a great place to go get a different spin on Asian cuisine. Kind of like Chinese food, but different, the Thai Place is designed and adorned quite similar to a Chinese restaurant (based on my ignorance of the two cultures) When I walked in I found it to be quiet, cozy and inviting. The wait staff is very friendly and helped me navigate the menu, the trick to Thai food is figuring out how spicy you want your food. There is "mild," "medium," "hot," and "Thai hot." I thought I was playing it safe with medium and my eyeballs were sweating halfway through my meal. I ordered the "Pad Thai" which is a noodle dish with peanuts, chicken and vegetables, it was fantastic. It comes with a dainty crab rangoon, which was good but very small, so I suggest ordering a side of them or go for the spring rolls appetizer. They are not deep fried, and they are served with a delicious peanut sauce. Final note; the portions are huge and you will almost always have some to take home.

Thai Place serves above average Thai food in a strip mall location. The portion sizes are quite large, so you might consider either splitting an entree with a friend or planning on taking half of it home. I love their Pad See Ew, my standard bearer for Thai restaurants. The carrots and baby corn in the dish seemed unusual and didn't quite go with the balance of sweet sauce and bitter greens, but they weren't too bad either, and I'm always up for extra veggies. The service was good and the decor fairly standard for a Thai restaurant. What confused me were the two large screen tvs showing a program on hunters somewhere in the rural US. Kinda incongruous for a Thai joint, but at least the volume was on mute. Regardless, if you can't make it to Bangkok, Thai Place will satisfy your craving.

Craving Thai food we decided to try this place out. What a mistake! The customer service was horrible! Not to mention there was a BUG in the glass of water they poured me! I can overlook some things if the food is good, uncleanliness is not one of those things. With the price of food here, they should take food prep & cleanliness courses. Period. How this place is open is a wonder to me.

I must admit I've never been here for dinner but this is an excellent place to come for lunch. The service is friendly, the food comes out quickly, and the price is great which to me is a perfect lunch combo. For $10 you can get a lunch side entree, rice, and 2 crab Rangoon. I often have leftovers for the next day. As far as authenticity I am not the bet judge of Thai food but the spice is always made to order and the ingredients are fresh.

Amazing. I love thai and this is the place I go to get it in Overland Park. Delicious, great selection, I love Amy on the staff - she is Miss Sassy. I like to switch up between pad thai and some of the curries. I like it medium hot and that is usually what I get although once in a while it seems pretty HOT to me. I have only had one thing that truly disappointed me and that was the duck - way too salty. Otherwise I have always been happy with my meals and service and glad to take my leftovers home. YUM!

Last time we went here when some friends came in from out of town. It was super good. A little more saltier/flavorful than usual, but a really good/great group meal. Last year or so, the food was getting more expensive and smaller in portion. But it was perfect... maybe it was a different chef.. or maybe since it was a Monday, it was slower. I don't know, but it was a great meal.

First time visit and we will be back. The food was great! Great menu selection, large portions so you can eat family style. Excellent service. Nice restaurant inside. The portions are so big you can really order 1 dish for 2 people. We were a party of 4, had 2 liquor drinks, 2 Thai Ice teas, shared a salad and apps ordered dinner for $100. Brought home left overs and will have them for lunch. I had the seafood phad Thai medium spicy and it was sooo good!

If you like Thai, then you will love SE Asian cuisine, such as Vietnamese and Malaysian. Unfortunately there is no true Vietnamese restaurant in JoCo, and there is no Malaysian restaurant in KC. Somehow there are tons of Thai restaurants in KC, go figure. I don't come to this Thai Place location often because there isn't really special about it. I could go to Bangkok Pavilion on 97-Metcalf for lunch buffet if I really want something that taste like Thai. I went to Thai Place simply because I actually wanted to go to ABC Cafe, only to realize it closes on Tuesday. Didn't feel like driving far, I went next door to Thai Place. I have to tell you the dinner pricing on the menu is outrageous. $19 for "Eight Knights" which is equivalent to the "Happy Family" you get from Chinese restaurant, and I ordered it not because i like it but for the kids who can't eat hhhoooootttt dishes. Wife and i did order something else, one of them was a beef dish. I was extremely disappointed to see they used rump roast instead something tender. Yes the sauce was good but the beef simply ruined the whole thing, just picture the dry, chewy, jerky-like texture in your mouth, and did I say they charges insane amount for items on dinner menu serving lunch-sized portion? Oh yes I did, but doesn't hurt to say it again. Please Yelpers, don't rate a Thai restaurant just because they have crap raccoon... I mean "crab Rangoon" or got excited by Pad Thai. SE Asian dishes are really tasty and flavorful, so do try out places like Vietnam Cafe in downtown or some Malaysian restaurants while you are in Chicago, then come back to this Thai Place and you will realize this place isn't that really special afterall. Oh wait, it is special because they charges you an arm and a leg on the dinner menu! (Look, I did it again!)

I have never had anything other than their Pad Thai. But let me tell you, it's my favorite dish in all of kansas city (just barely squeaking past BBQ, which is heresy to say here in KC). Every Tuesday, this and the Westport location have buy one get one free pad thai. "pad thai tuesday" as it's aptly named. I've been to the Lenexa location about 10 times and it's been WONDERFUL every time. I got pad thai to go yesterday (11/22/11) and ordered Thai hot and it was THE hottest I've ever had! My endorphins were running faster than the wildebeast in the stampede scene of the Lion King. I loved it! Now, on Thursdays down at the westport location they have the super thai hot challenge. I asked the waitresses in Lenexa about it and they said they've seen people start bleeding because of the spice. That sounds like my kind of challenge. BRING THE HEAT BABY!

I've changed my mind about this place. I'm taking away its stars. The food is always good but I can never get the dish I order when I get take out. Ohhh the food never disappoints and it always tastes so good. the only problem.... the waitress we had was MEAN last time we dinned in! I was ordering off the veggie menu and I still got served pad thai with chicken in it. When I sent it back I got yelled at! I've never had this happen before. She told me I was wrong and that she was right and that I needed to tell her that It should have been vegetarian. I should mention that I actually ordered and pointed to what I wanted while I was talking to her. I was so embarrassed after this incident! the whole place was staring at me!!! I tried getting take out again giving this place one last shot. They didn't even come close to giving me the dish I ordered. I tried to be nice when I called back to get the order corrected but no one would correct the order. The girl on the phone insisted that some guy on the phone told her to make it this way. This is NOT the case I had just called the order in! Every time I order something it is different! I even had the girl on the phone repeat the dish after I ordered it so it would be right. *SIGH* I had to drive all the way back and return my food. I don't think I'll be ordering any more food from here after my two really bad experiences. I've never encountered a place with service like this before.

So far, this is the best Thai place I've found in the KC Metro. This is my go-to place for curry. When you ask for medium spiciness, you really get it, and it's actually at my upper limit. This place is about as hot or hotter than the hottest medium at Thai places in San Francisco, where there are lots of good Thai restaurants; they're as abundant as Starbucks! The Phad Kee Mow isn't up to my usual standards, but for here I guess it will have to do. Thumbs up for a large selection of items on the menu. This is the go-to place for my gf to get Crab Rangoon.

YUMMY!!!!!!!!! This location was the restaurant that introduced me to the food genre that is Thai. The store has changed a bit since I moved to KC (the main lobby was closed for remodeling for a good bit of time) however it came back stronger than ever. Absolutely beautiful decorations. Even better is the poor man's indoor courtyard that is attached to the right of the building. absolutely soothing and relaxing when you need to get away from the office @ lunch. Now to the food. This place is wowwoweee amazing! The pad Thai noodles are always perfectly done and to the right spice and consistency. I have also had the panang curry and that is also one of those must have items. I had the Pad sea ew once and I am not a fan of it at all. very different taste. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are advanced in ethnic food or have a thing for the bizarre. The Crab Rangoon..........sigh.......... I can eat those things all day long. I never EVER ate crab Rangoon (or cream cheese Rangoon as I call it anywhere else). This changed once I tried their variety here. They are smaller in size, but the flavor is something totally unexpected and off the wall. Sweet yet savory. And the won ton wrapper is fried to absolute perfection. (oops, i just drooled on my keyboard) The only other restaurant in the Kansas City area that has a Rangoon that can match this is Red Snapper (They have a smoked salmon Rangoon!!!) Overall, this is a wonderful place. My wife and her "gurly girl" friends love to have mini pow-wow's here before stealing our the debit cards (the hubbies) and blowing away our life savings at random shopping malls.

The Thai place has excellent food. It is probably the best Thai I have ever tasted, however as a whole I cannot give it a full five stars and here is why. The waiters there are hit or miss, sometimes they can be very friendly but others it feels like you are bothering them. A lot of times it has felt like they try to guess what you want instead of listening. The atmosphere is correct, but overall the place is kept a little dark. I think the lighting has to be reconsidered there. The last thing is that the prices are a little bit on the expensive side for the type of food. I cannot see myself paying such high prices for food that is not made with super exotic ingredients. The most important thing is the food though, and that is excellent. Make sure to try their fried rice, which if you have never had beyond the regular Chinese place, you are missing out. Their crab rangoon are also delicious.

Not the best Thai food I've had. The atmosphere is nice - too nice in my opinion. I'd like a bit more grit when I'm eating Thai food. The satay here is really great and we love the crab rangoon'ish things. Crab rangoon being nearly as American as a cheeseburger it seems. I just happen to really like the thin thin crispy wrappers they use and the sweet chili sauce they serve them with. The portions are enormous and we always end up with leftovers. I ordered a thai beef salad here (something similar to waterfall beef) and was sorely disappointed. I love it with a sour and salty dressing with lots of lime and fish sauce and mint and cilantro. This one was dry, the beef a little tough. The tiny dish of cucumber salad that comes alongside some appetizers is delicious. It has a sweet and tangy vinegar dressing that I could just drink. My roommate enjoyed the seafood fried rice and it was indeed loaded with seafood. He liked the scallops tucked in there. If I'm eating something really spicy I love a cool, creamy, sweet Thai iced tea to cool things off but know ahead it's really sweet. Lots of somewhat "upper class" white people here doing their best to be adventurous. Ha! You might even encounter the occasional awkward first date taking place next to your table. And speaking of tables - this particular location basically has three rows of seating. Booths line the walls and between sits a row of tables. I prefer a booth because the tables down the center make one seem like they're sitting alone in the middle of the room.
